THE SPIRIT OF THE 1980'S
After the recession in the 70´s, Sweden in the 1980´s entered an economic boom, which is usually called the “happy 80 s”. The 1980s began with great tensions in the “Cold War”, which later dissolved with the fall of the Berlin Wall. During the 80’s tech developed quickly and swedish people started using computers both at work and at home. Even the first mobile phones began to sell, with giant batteries by today’s standards.
ARCHITECTURE IN THE 1980'S
POSTMODERNISM – The word refers to what came “after modernism” or the “funkis” as we say in Sweden and Norway. Villa architecture went back to old styles, and decorations were once again popular after decades of minimalism. The decor was once again inspired by historical styles. The first CAD drawing programs were created for business computers, which made the design more angular again. It was seen on cars and houses, among other things.
EXTERIOR DOORS 1980'S
White painted exterior doors with glazed arched tops were popular. One-piece villas often had lavish exterior doors while group-built villas had simpler more rustic doors with a smaller, simpler glazing. The exterior doors of the group-built villas were often in teak veneer or painted in bright colours such as blue, green or red. One-story bungalow-style houses often had large overhangs, which made screened roofs unnecessary.
