About Bovalls

Bovalls Dörrbyggeri is run by Eva and Inger Gustafsson, the third generation of door builders in the small town of Bovallstrand on the Swedish west coast. Our carpentry shop is located on the outermost coastline of the Sotenäset peninsula in Bohuslän, western Sweden. The weather here is as harsh today as it was when our grandfather established his quality standards. That’s why we continue to use approximately the same building methods.

Heritage and history

When Bengt Gustafsson founded the company in 1943, he set out to manufacture robust, quality doors for the local community of boathouse and house owners in and around Bovallstrand. Doors that would withstand the harsh weather conditions of the Swedish west coast. Since then, we have worked according to the same standards and quality ever since. Learn more.

Craftmanship

Quality and craftsmanship are close to our hearts. We build our doors with respect for the raw material, which has taken decades to grow. The grain of the wood has been shaped by nature, and every piece, every panel, every frame and every moulding is unique. We may not think about it so often, but it is actually a great privilege to handle such a beautiful material every day.

Types and origins of our wood

We always aim to source wood responsibly. One important step in this process is to use FSC®-certified wood. This photo was taken in the forest behind the factory. With the sea to the west and forest to the east it is easy to take an interest in sustainability issues.
