THE SPIRIT OF THE 1970'S
The 1970s began with an oil crisis followed by a recession. This time can be described as a turning point between the industrial society and service society. During the 1970s, environmental thinking made a serious impact, which in Sweden, among other things, was reflected in the “green wave”.
THE ARCHITECTURE IN THE 1970´S
Energy saving – The appearance of the villas of the 1970´s was affected by the energy crisis that prevailed. New houses got smaller windows and thicker exterior walls than before. Large roof slopes and deep recessed roofs are typically of the 70´s. At one end of the villa there was often a balcony under a roof. The facade was low, and the windows were placed directly under the eaves. Lime and sandstone bricks were often combined with wood panelling, dominated as the façade material.
EXTERIOR DOORS 1970´S
In the exclusive villas, it was common with lavish exterior doors with large side lights. In simpler catalogue villas, the design was simpler and the rustic villa door had associations to folk culture. The new energy saving requirements demanded better insulated exterior doors and the door thickness increased to a minimum of 60 mm. In addition to well-worked teak doors and oak doors during this time, it can unfortunately be said that insulation ability was more important than the design.
